Mrs Meehan's class made weather vanes in Science this week. Here are some photos of them in action. This week we had a low energy day where we didn't have the heat or electricity turned on. Here are some pictures of our energy usage and the children in the senior class conserving energy using layers! Mrs Finnegan recently held a poster and poetry competition relating to saving energy in school and at home. Here are a selection of the winning entries and the children who won in their categories. The children from 3rd-6th class in St Dympna's NS were part of the Peace Proms choir this year. This involved practices twice a week after school, a practice day with our conductor in the Basketball Arena in Tallaght and the performance itself in the RDS in Dublin. We got to perform with a professional conductor and a real orchestra! It was an amazing experience for us all. Thank you to all the staff who helped with this event, to the parents and friends who came to support us and to the Parents Association who sponsored both buses to Dublin for the children. Our school debating team went to St Mary's Boys NS recently to take part in the semi final of Monaghan's Primary Debating Ireland Competition. We proposed the motion that no one should have to pay for water. Unfortunately we weren't victorious on the day, but we were delighted to get this far in such a prestigious competion. Well done to Tarah Sherlock our captain, Emma Mc Carron and Emma Brady our speakers, Aoife Brady our time keeper and Caoimhe Mc Carra our chairperson. Thank you to the Parents Association for sponsoring the bus and allowing us to take 2nd-6th class to support. 5th and 6th class went to the Garage Theatre in Monaghan recently to take part in an Irish drama Féis with their play 'Harry Potter agus an Orchloch'. A few days later their parents and friends came to our class to watch the show. Well done to all the children who performed excellently and thanks to those who came to support us. 5th and 6th class attended a mini basketball tournament in St Macartan's recently. They got to the cup final (last two teams!), but unfortunately lost by just one point. Well done to all the girls and boys for the hard work they put in during training and on the day itself.
Mrs Meehan's class have been learning about renewable energy sources and wind power. Here are some photos of their excellent hover crafts in action. |
