Many thanks to Myles Treanor who took Mrs Coll's class for a very interesting PE lesson. Who knew crawling and squats were such hard work! We will have to keep up the core exercises! Thanks also to Eimear Treanor vice president of the student council, who kindly organised this for her class.
The student council reported back to the rest of the school on their progress so far at our Assembly. A book club has been established. The first meeting will be on the 21st of October and the first book read will be 'George's Marvellous Medicine' by Roald Dahl. There will be a quiz and a chat about the themes and characters in the book. Another initiative by the student council was a PE class for 5th and 6th classes. Eimear's brother Myles Treanor is going to teach us movements similar to those used in gymnastics such a squats and crawls. A suggestion box will be put in the hall and pupils can put their ideas for the student council into it at break times. It must be realistic and be of benefit to the pupils or the school. The student council has been a great success so far and there are lots more fun, exciting and interesting ideas to come! Dylan Mc Phillips, Student Council President Paired reading happens every Thursday for Mrs Meehan and Mrs Coll's classes. This gives the children an opportunity to listen to each other, help each other and learn from each other. It has been a great success so far and the children really look forward to it. This can be continued at home with parents or siblings listening to the child reading and reading to the child. Every little helps! Congratulations to Daniel Roddy who won the raffle for a Scotstown gear voucher. We had a very interesting lesson where we learned about the Scotstown team who won the County final in 1960. We saw a lot of differences between now and then- having the final in December, different boots and jerseys, no sponsorship and a dark coloured ball were just a few things the children spotted! One thing that hasn't changed is a strong, competitive, supportive club is still going strong!
Music classes have resumed for 1st-6th classes with Marina Mohan. This year our senior group have whistles, accordians, bodhráns and banjos! Their wonderful music can be heard at First Friday masses and school events. Marina is also preparing a singing group for spraoí scór. We wish them every success. |
